We have deliberately chosen 100% pure new wool because we want to preserve the natural properties of the wool fibre as much as possible. Pure wool is breathable, temperature-regulating, anti-static and can absorb moisture without immediately feeling wet.

If synthetic fibres are added, these natural material properties might be altered. That is why we rely on a high-quality natural material without any polyester additives. This way, your horse benefits from the special properties of pure new wool and a comfortable climate under the rug.

Yes. The wool is pre-washed and specially steamed before processing. This means that the wool’s natural shrinkage process is largely complete.

The AIKO wool cooler rug can therefore be machine-washed on the wool cycle using a wool detergent. We recommend a spin speed of 300–400 rpm.

The correct size depends on your horse’s back length and build. A well-fitting cooling rug should cover the back completely, allow sufficient freedom of movement at the shoulders and chest, and neither feel tight nor slip out of place.

No. A horse rug made from 100% virgin wool does not usually need to be waterproofed. Wool fibres naturally offer a certain degree of protection against moisture, as they contain natural wool grease (lanolin). This allows them to absorb moisture whilst simultaneously releasing it back into the environment.

Over time and after several washes, the natural lanolin content may decrease slightly. If you wish to preserve the natural properties of the wool in the long term, you can occasionally treat the rug with a special lanolin wool care product (available from the AIKO shop). However, waterproofing is not necessary for normal use.

Virgin wool is a natural material and may – particularly when new or in conditions of high humidity – have a subtle, characteristic woolly smell. This is caused by the natural components of the wool fibre and is a sign that it is a genuine natural material.
