  • This anatomically shaped saddle pad is made from 5mm pure wool felt (OEKO-TEX® certified)
  • Wool is breathable, skin-friendly and antibacterial and is a material that is already being used in many sports.
  • Our wool saddle pads are characterized by great dimensional stability - the look is always nice and smooth and wrinkle-free. On the top as well as on the bottom. It doesn't slip (it doesn't have straps at the front) and has a pressure-balancing effect. Also available with straps as an option.
  • Anatomically shaped back line for optimal freedom of the withers - the body heat adapts to the silhouette of your horse. This means that it feels like it was “tailor-made” on your back.
  • On the left side the punched out AIKO logo adorns the saddle pad, on the right it is very simple and pure.
  • Equipped with belt loop and reinforcement for the saddle belt
  • Washable in the wool washing program at 30°C (wool detergent, max. 400 spin cycles). You hardly have to wash wool. It is ideal to simply brush it off and air it out after riding. Stains can also be removed with water or a little wool detergent. The less it is washed, the better its properties will remain.

Made with nature in mind by AIKO®

Everything you need to know about nature’s high-tech – answers to frequently asked questions about our felt saddle pads.

What are the benefits of a felt saddle pad?

A felt saddle pad made from high-quality merino felt offers numerous benefits for both horse and rider. The natural material is breathable, temperature-regulating and moisture-balancing, creating a comfortable environment under the saddle. At the same time, the dimensionally stable felt distributes pressure evenly and adapts perfectly to the horse’s back without losing its shape.

Merino felt is also naturally antibacterial, odour-resistant and dirt-repellent. As a result, a felt saddle pad needs to be washed much less frequently than many conventional saddle pads. Thanks to its durability, ease of care and timeless design, it is a sustainable choice for everyday use as well as for competitions and training.

AIKO felt saddle pads and numnahs are made from 100% high-quality merino felt (without any polyester additives) and combine the functional properties of a natural material with elegant design and sustainable manufacturing in Europe. The result is a saddle pad that combines comfort, function and durability to the highest standard.

How thick is a felt saddle pad?

Our AIKO felt saddle pads are made from approx. 5–6 mm thick merino felt. This offers an ideal combination of cushioning, dimensional stability and close contact with the horse’s back. The felt distributes pressure evenly without adding unnecessary bulk or altering the fit of the saddle.

Expert tip
If you use an additional saddle pad, such as a lambskin, with your conventional saddle pad, you can continue to use this with the merino felt saddle pads as well.
Can I use a felt saddle pad with any saddle?

Our felt saddle pads and felt numnahs are available for standard dressage, show jumping and eventing saddles. It is important to choose the right shape for your saddle so that the saddle pad fits perfectly and provides sufficient freedom at the withers. Furthermore, the felt saddle pads are available in WB, COB and full-size pony sizes.

Should you use a felt saddle pad for young horses?

Young horses in particular often benefit from a high-quality felt saddle pad. Merino felt distributes pressure evenly and, thanks to its natural elasticity, moulds well to the horse’s back. This natural material also hardly slips at all, making it very comfortable to wear. Of course, a saddle pad is no substitute for a correctly fitted saddle, but it can provide useful support.

Is a felt saddle pad gentle on the skin?

Merino wool is particularly comfortable, breathable and temperature-regulating. It helps to absorb moisture from the horse’s back and create a comfortable climate under the saddle. Many riders therefore appreciate merino felt even for sensitive horses and horses with sebaceous gland problems.

Can I also use my lambskin with a felt saddle pad?

Yes. A felt saddle pad can be used without any problems alongside a lambskin pad, provided your saddle offers sufficient space and remains correctly fitted. Many riders combine both materials to achieve additional shock absorption or to customise the fit of their saddle. AIKO felt saddle pads are approx. 5–6 mm thick and comparable to a standard medium-thickness quilted saddle pad.

Do I need to have my saddle altered if I use a felt saddle pad?

In most cases, no. Our felt saddle pads, with a thickness of around 5–6 mm, have been deliberately designed so that they barely alter the fit of the saddle. This thickness corresponds roughly to a medium-thickness quilted saddle pad. However, for sensitive horses or very snugly fitted saddles, we still recommend having the saddle fit checked by a qualified saddler.

Why does AIKO use merino felt?

We use 100% high-quality merino felt, as this natural material combines numerous benefits. Merino felt is breathable, temperature-regulating, moisture-balancing, retains its shape and is durable. At the same time, it distributes pressure evenly and ensures a comfortable climate under the saddle. Our felt saddle pads are sustainably manufactured in Europe and combine the functional properties of nature with high-quality design.

How do you care for a felt saddle pad?

Merino felt is extremely easy to care for. After riding, it is usually sufficient to air the felt saddle pad thoroughly and brush off any loose hairs or dirt. As merino wool is naturally dirt-repellent and antibacterial, it needs to be washed much less frequently than conventional saddle pads.

Can a felt saddle pad be washed?

Yes. Our AIKO felt saddle pads can be washed without any problems in the washing machine. Use a wool wash cycle at a low temperature and a suitable wool detergent. Then leave the saddle pad to dry flat or on a drying rack. Thanks to our special manufacturing process, the high-quality merino felt retains its shape.

Expert tip
In summer, the saddle pad can simply be hosed down with a garden hose or a Kärcher pressure washer. Heavily soiled areas can be treated with a brush and wool detergent. Our merino felt is robust and durable!
How quickly does a felt saddle pad dry?

Merino felt absorbs moisture without becoming completely saturated. As a result, a felt saddle pad dries surprisingly quickly and remains comfortably dry even whilst riding. After washing, air-drying is usually sufficient – a tumble dryer is not required.

Can I personalise my felt saddle pad with my horse’s name?

Yes. Many of our felt saddle pads can be customised. Depending on the model, we offer personalisation with sparkling crystals or precise laser engraving directly into the merino felt. The result is a saddle pad that suits you and your horse perfectly.

Is a personalised felt saddle pad a lovely gift?

A personalised felt saddle pad is a special gift for riders. With a name, initials or a personalised engraving, you create a unique, one-of-a-kind item that combines functionality, high-quality materials and a personal touch – ideal as a birthday or Christmas gift - or as a memento of a special horse.

What personalisation options are available?

Depending on the model, you can personalise your AIKO felt saddle pad with a name, initials or a customised inscription. This is done either using high-quality crystals or as an elegant laser engraving in the felt. Both options give your saddle pad a personal and exclusive touch.

Are the crystals durable?

We use only high-quality crystals that are specifically designed for use on textiles. They are carefully crafted and designed to withstand daily use in the stable as well as machine washing of our felt saddle pads. Provided you follow the care instructions, your personalisation will remain looking good for a long time.

Is the laser engraving permanent?

Yes. The laser engraving is incorporated directly into the high-quality merino felt and therefore cannot peel off or wash out. It is particularly durable and gives the felt saddle pad a subtle, elegant look that allows your horse’s coat colour to show through.

Can I also have my own logo or design engraved?

In many cases, yes. In addition to names and initials, logos or custom graphics can also be laser-engraved, depending on the design and technical feasibility. We’d be happy to review your design and advise you on the options.

How long does personalisation take?

As each personalised felt saddle pad is made individually for you, the personalisation process takes a little longer than for a standard model. You can find the current delivery time directly on the relevant product page. Usually 1–2 weeks.

Can I return a personalised felt saddle pad?

Personalised felt saddle pads are made to order according to your specifications. They are therefore excluded from the right of withdrawal, unless there is a fault in the material or manufacture. If you have any questions about your order, our customer service team will of course be happy to help.

Wool is basically self-cleaning and antibacterial. Due to its great "self-cleaning" properties, odors have a hard time settling in wool.

Therefore it hardly or only rarely needs to be washed. The less often you wash wool, the longer it retains its natural properties. With our saddle pads, it is enough to simply brush them out a little after riding. If they are damp, simply airing them out is enough. Wool dries very quickly!

However, our wool saddle pads can also be washed with a gentle wool washing program and wool detergent (30°C and max. 400 spin cycles).

It's best to straighten it a little after washing and hang it up to dry on the middle seam. They can also be ironed later at level 2 (with or without steam) :-)

Wool is a natural product and, like cotton, can shrink 1-2 cm. However, since we have already pre-treated it with steam, the shrinkage process will be less.
