A riding skirt offers additional protection from wind and cold without restricting freedom of movement. It is worn over riding breeches and provides warmth especially to the lower back and thighs—areas of the body that are particularly exposed to the elements while riding.
Although the AIKO riding skirt was originally developed for equestrian sports, today it is just as popular for cycling, hiking, walking, or everyday stable life. Thanks to its functional design, it’s suitable for many outdoor activities during the cooler months.
The strategically placed slits ensure that the skirt adapts to movements. Whether riding, cycling, or walking, the skirt opens exactly where additional freedom of movement is needed. At the same time, it continues to provide protection from wind and cold.
The overlapping design combines function and aesthetics. When standing, the skirt appears closed and elegant. When sitting or making larger movements, the overlapping sections open in a controlled manner, creating exactly the space needed for movement.
The design was developed so that the skirt fits comfortably even when you move. Thanks to the well-thought-out cut and the overlapping slits, it stays securely in place and is much less likely to ride up.
Softshell provides reliable protection from the wind and is water-repellent. At the same time, the material remains pleasantly light and flexible. The soft fleece lining also ensures comfortable wear on cooler days.
The softshell riding skirt is particularly suitable for fall, winter, and spring. It provides reliable protection against wind and light moisture, making it ideal for changeable weather conditions.
The version made from high-quality virgin wool stands out thanks to the material’s natural properties. Wool regulates temperature, is breathable, and ensures a comfortable body climate in both cool and fluctuating temperatures.
Yes. The skirt is simply worn over riding pants and is also suitable for jeans, leggings, or outdoor clothing. This makes it versatile and allows you to quickly put it on or take it off as needed.
Yes. Especially in changing weather conditions, it’s convenient to be able to put the skirt on or take it off in just a few seconds. This makes it a hassle-free companion at the stable and on the go.
Yes. The skirt can be folded up to save space and easily stowed in a backpack or the tack room. That way, it’s always within reach if the weather changes.
A functional riding skirt must provide warmth and protection without restricting movement. That’s why the cut, material, and construction are carefully coordinated. This results in a comfortable fit both in the saddle and when walking or cycling.
Manufacturing within Europe ensures short shipping distances, high quality standards, and meticulous craftsmanship. This results in durable products designed for regular use in equestrian and outdoor activities.
A functional outdoor skirt offers benefits beyond the saddle. It protects the lower back and thighs from wind and cold without restricting freedom of movement. That’s why many customers also wear the AIKO riding skirt while hiking, walking their dogs, cycling, or in everyday life. Thanks to its well-thought-out cut, it adapts to a variety of movements and offers a high level of comfort even outside of equestrian sports.
When riding, freedom of movement and protection from the elements are equally important. A well-designed outdoor skirt combines both: It provides warmth where the body is particularly sensitive to wind, while its intelligently placed slits ensure sufficient freedom of movement in the saddle. This maintains comfort even during longer rides or in changing weather conditions.
AIKO offers riding and outdoor skirts in various lengths so that every rider can choose the perfect companion for her activities and the season.
Each skirt length serves a different purpose. While shorter styles offer maximum freedom of movement during athletic activities, longer styles protect larger areas of the body from wind and cold. This allows the outdoor skirt to be optimally adapted to different weather conditions and uses.
The mid-length wool skirt extends slightly past the knee and provides additional protection for the thighs against the cold. Thanks to the natural properties of high-quality virgin wool, it is ideal for stable work, trail rides, hikes, or extended time outdoors. It combines freedom of movement with pleasant warmth, making it particularly versatile.
This long outdoor skirt, made of 100% virgin wool, reaches down to the ankle and protects nearly the entire leg from wind and cold. This makes it particularly suitable for cold winter days, longer horseback rides, or any outdoor activities where you’ll be out in the open for an extended period of time. The natural weight of the high-quality virgin wool ensures that the skirt drapes smoothly and stays comfortably in place even in windy conditions.
Many carriage drivers also appreciate the long wool skirt as a practical alternative to the classic saddle blanket. Since the skirt is already worn when mounting the horse, there’s no need to put on or adjust an additional blanket. At the same time, your legs and lower back stay comfortably warm during the ride.
Both a saddle blanket and a long riding skirt are designed to protect the legs and lower back from wind and cold. The main difference lies in how they’re used: A saddle blanket is first placed over the legs, while the AIKO riding skirt is worn from the start and moves with you. This allows you to remain flexible when mounting and dismounting and eliminates the need to adjust an additional blanket.
Many female riders and carriage drivers therefore value the long riding skirt as a practical alternative, especially when they’re on the move frequently or switching between riding, leading the horse, and stable work.
Many female carriage drivers appreciate the long AIKO riding skirt as a practical alternative to the classic saddle blanket. Since the skirt is already on, you remain flexible when mounting and dismounting and don’t have to drape an additional blanket over your legs or adjust it after sitting down. At the same time, the long skirt reliably protects the legs and lower back from wind and cold—both during the ride and when handling the horse.
This riding skirt was produced for you in Austria from 100% virgin wool (OEKO-TEX® certified).
Wool rarely or rarely needs to be washed. The less often you wash wool, the longer it retains its natural properties. Light dirt can simply be brushed out or cleaned in places with a little wool detergent and then with clear water.
However, you can also wash the skirt with a gentle wool washing program and wool detergent (30°C and max. 400 spin cycles).
It's best to straighten something up after washing and hang it on a drying rack to dry (do not hang). Can also be ironed at level 1.
